Mondays are usually not much worth celebrating. Mondays often begin with me snoozing my alarm at least six times, rolling out of bed just in time to make it to my 8 AM yoga class and feeling groggy for at least the first 8 hours of the day. Was today much different? Honestly, not really, BUT, in celebration and in countering the usual Monday blues, I’ve decided I might as well start the week off right by remembering all the good that is currently lined up in this lion’s life. Positive attitudes are worth something, right? RIGHT! So-
This week I am thankful for:
Live at Eddie’s Attic by The Civil Wars, which is free on their website! Necessary!
2. Getting to change my Rolling Stone calendar to this month’s fabulous picture
3. Having less than a month of school left!!!!!
4. Fresh blueberries mixed in my morning oatmeal
5. Recording (!!!) as Olive & Chuck in the big fancy studio
6. My roommates
7. Knowing that I have the rest of the week to come up with even more things about which to be thankful!
What are you thankful for, internet?
Sometimes I remember that I love cliched girls-before-going-out-on-the-town pictures.
Sometimes getting stuck in traffic is wonderful, if it means getting to listen to an entire album and sing along with your best friend with hand motions at stoplights.
Sometimes looking at Christmas lights and hearing holiday greetings makes me get all sappy and over-emotionally happy. Thanks, X chromosomes.
Sometimes I spend an entire day glued to a book I cannot put down for anything in the world, only to feel both relieved and accomplished from the marvelous journey but also sad at the end cause I’ll miss the characters.
Sometimes I drink coffee four times a day and brush it off like it’s normal.
Sometimes I take the whole playing-music-for-a-living dream seriously for about ten minutes and it is both the most exciting thing and the most scary thing in my brain. So, when I’m stuck between taking music seriously and having fun, I strike a happy medium. And sometimes, more often than not, that results in a little happy song.
Merry Christmas Eve Eve! Feel free to send me some snow, it’s 75 degrees and humid here in Texas. Hopefully Santa packed a tank top.
Well, as it turns out, Roommate C and I have decided to take our band just a little bit more seriously.
WE FINALLY HAVE A BAND NAME!
Olive & Chuck
(& if you don’t like it, you can chuck an olive!!!)
Why this name? Inspiration in a little tv show called Pushing Daisies. I can’t say enough good things about it.
And now for a little shameless promotion: you can find our music here, like us, or follow us on twitter!
I’ve hardly been able to sit down and commit to writing because life is HAPPENING!
Not to say that it wasn’t before, but in my three years of college so far, I always notice that the fall just seems to move at a faster pace. Maybe it’s the cold weather that finally reaches us down here in Texas, maybe it’s the fact that we go stir-crazy as our classes seem to be dragging on til the end, or maybe it’s just because the changing leaves make us eager to change it up.
Whatever it is, the door to our little apartment has been constantly opening with guests and friends bearing baked goods and stories, and I am in no mood to complain!
Roommate C and I tend to strum around and harmonize in our free time and we made a little road trip to her hometown…..
…and played a little show in a pumpkin patch.
1 guitar, 1 ukulele, 5 harmonicas, 2 hours of strumming and well, all the technicalities and practice and occasional little mess-ups aside, there’s no better way to spend a Saturday. Did I mention it was a pumpkin patch? Talk about dedication to theme.
Did I consider swiping all those pumpkins to make a giant pie?
Yes, yes I did.
